This last week hasn’t been a good week; family members has finally succumbed and we have had a couple of positive covid tests, I’ve cancelled or declined several social events including the office do, a concert and drinks with friends.
We are supposed to be hosting Christmas for lots of the family and whether or not we should go ahead has been adding to the stress levels.
So, I was particularly looking forward of my visit to the lake this weekend, even though the weather forecast promised a very dull, grey morning.
However, as is so often the case, the chance to get out early, avoid the hustle and bustle of other people and have the freedom and time to enjoy the natural surroundings, and to wander as fast or as slow as I wanted, was a real tonic.
Focusing on something else, thinking about what shots I might take, listening to the many different birdsongs and calls helped take my mind off other things.
It was an “and breathe” moment – well few hours actually
The weather was better than I had been promised with broken clouds and some clear sky and some lovely dawn colours
I took, as ever, lots of shots but when it came to reviewing them, I saw how many were of the lake itself and while there were numerous shots of birds, I’ve decided this is a bird free week, unless one happens to be flying over or is perched on a branch.
While photos aren’t the same as actually getting out and reconnecting with nature, I hope some of the photographs here bring you a break in your day and just a feeling of calm and even a little joy
Post script: One of the birds I did see was ‘Woody’ the American Wood Duck. I hadn't seen him for a few weeks so good to ‘reacquaint’ myself with him
...and of course Happy Christmas
