Ok, so that is a pretty bad pun, but it is the best I can come with.
Last week was the first misty morning I have enjoyed this autumn. A misty morning brings with it a unique feeling, a beautiful eeriness, a muffled magnificence.
Sounds seem quieter and the mist enfolds you like a cold grey blanket.
Misty mornings often encourage me to take black and white photos, however in the shots from my early morning visit, there were also some which worked well in colour. Their backgrounds were muted, almost greyscale, and they provided a quiet backdrop out of which bright trees, leaves and birds 'popped' .
As I walked on the mist lifted a bit. There was still plenty to enjoy...
...a little egret (which though shot in colour is almost all black and white)
Another group of cormorants fishing
With work going on around Stocker’s Lake and one of the paths closed for a week, I decided to go on through Inn's Lake and round Springwell Lake. This was the first time I had done this for a while and I was rewarded with my first view of a turtle (or terrapin). I had been told that there were some in the lakes but in two years I hadn’t seen one before.
I loved the eyes and the expression.
The pathways was as picturesque as ever.
And I was delighted to see and capture a buzzard flying overhead.
And, of course, there was the obligatory grey heron
And some beautiful views of Springwell Lake and its flora
(You decide if you prefer black and white or colour)
(just for clarity this visit was the week before I went away to Devon which I talked about in the previous blog)
